Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the top-streamed track within 6 months. It's a blend of reggaeton with pop that was not just a new ear to reggaeton, but more interest in Latin music. There were in 2015 two predominantly Spanish-language songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 mostly Spanish songs made it onto the Top 100 In 2020, there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in 2017. Soon after, popular artistes began to collaborate with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018) as well as Madonna was a part of Maluma for Medellin. Certain reggaeton performers lamented the trend towards mainstream music in the year 2020. Yet a new group, Rauw alejandro, was seeking to make a change. His music often contained elements from electronic dance and other genres.
